Let's Start with the executive summary first!  ;)

Two oldish Bikes - 1982 BMW R100RT & 1983 Yamaha XJ750 Shaft

Four bikers in their prime!  (Was threathened with severe dismemberment if I used the "O" word here.. ::)

From left to right:  Deon, Rina, Don & Anna

GPS said we did 2698km over 11 days - did LOTS of inspections along the way! R1200 worth of petrol used by the BMW, a bit less by the Yamaha - about 2 liters per filling. Longest distance between fill-ups - BMW - 283km.

Used Backpackers and Self catering accomodation where we couldn't bum off friends and family.  ;) Paid on average R265 per night per couple for accomodation that included en-suite ablutions where possible. Best without doubt the Backpackers Paradise in Oudtshoorn, worst was Ikhaya Backpackers in Stellenbosch.

LOADS of fun was had by all.  Don & Anna did a similar trip 23 years ago, on the same bike! :headbang: This was Rina's longest trip so far, 400km to Kokstad being the previous longest. In the interest of matrimonial peace we decided on short distances per day, lots of stops. Succeeded mostly, chilling at the day's destination by about 2pm - there was however the incident of the 200km distance that turned out to be 388km  >:D

Interesting observation about other bikers - Around the False Bay Coast nobody seems to greet - except for the lonely BMW rider. :thumleft:

On the open road MOST guys greeted, but ALL the 2-up travellers greeted. In the Eastern Cape. J'Bay, PE, EVERYBODY greeted, including the big group of Harleys! Often wondered whether I passed any WD's along the way.

Had a very funny moment in Aberdeen, when we saw 3 BMW's. An oldish K-series and R100GS being ridden, and a spanking new 1200GS on a trailer... :mwink:

OK, so much for the executive summary. Will post more later in the day with more photos.
