Hi hi,
Not sure if this should be in the bike-specific thread but it seems quite a general question.
I am trying to check the valve clearance on my 2003 XR400.
So I turn the engine with a socket (counterclockwise) until the 'T' marking on the flywheel lines up with the index mark.
Now my workshop manual says 'Make sure the sub-rocker arm is loose. If the sub-rocker arm is tight the engine is not on its compression stroke. If so, turn the engine one full revolution counterclockwise and align the 'T' mark on the flywheel with the index mark on the left carnkcase cover.' Then surely the sub-rocker arm should be loose, ie. a little bit slack ???
But it is not, I have tried everything I can think of but it stays tight.
Or am I missing something ???
