Hello honne,
We finally did our first proper trip and also our first bit of gravel! What better place to go than the Lowveld - Sabie. Something about Sabie keeps me going back there about twice a year, love the place.
This is my first proper RR so please let me know what I can improve on next time :thumleft:
The Rider: Erkies
The Pillion: Rooikop
The Bike: Perdeby (Strom DL1000)
The Route: 1000km - 3days - Out on the N4 east from Centurion and through Sabie/Nelspruit/Witriver area and back again
The Accommodation: 2x nights at R80 pp/pn at self catering chalets at Horse Shoe falls in Sabie (No official name or website for this place, just Griet's cellphone number...)
Total estimated cost excluding equipment: R2200
Equipment:
Under bike seat:
46L Givi top box:
22L Soft panniers:
We left on Thursday with next stop Millys for brekkie and hot chocolate, from there we went to Kaapsehoop and through to Nelspruit and from there to Sabie via Witrivier on the R537 (beautiful piece of windy road through the trees). Stopped at Sabie at The Woodsman's bikers parking for more hot chocolate and burger before heading to Horse Shoe falls for the night.
Friday we went from Sabie to Nelpruit again for Innibos festival and back the same day. Stopped at Smokey Joe's on our way back for some good food. :thumleft:
Saturday we headed back home after another hot chocolate and brekkie at Milly's via R539 - N4 (would have gone Long Tom Pass via Dullstroom but did not want to chance it cause of misty weather Saturday morning)
The dirt road turnoffs all around Sabie looked VERY tempting but it was our first trip and with Rooikop at the back I did not want to go moer down somewhere because I am still novice on dirt roads... :eek7:
Had a strong wind from the side on the N4 coming back and plenty of trucks on the Waterval boven road, should have gone the Schoemanskloof road but there were delays with construction so we went via Waterval boven instead.
