Foam air filter instead of OEM paper air filter - BMW Dakar

Hi Dogs,

I was a bit surprised to see what looked like dust residue inside my airbox when I serviced my Dakar. I use the standard paper filter, which did not look particularly dirty (could not 'tap out' any dust). Filter was replaced anyway.

Does anyone have experience replacing the OEM filter with oil soaked foam? I also see there are snorkel filters available to pre-filter the air. Any experience using that?
