I bought my Dakar with a K&N filter, but I see it doesn't have a foam insert. The attached instructions (https://www.knfilters.com/instructions/BM-6501_inst.pdf) explains that the foam insert MUST BE USED, but it can be removed to allow for increased air flow providing that you calibrate the injectors. The first owner put a Van der Linde pipe on with the K&N air filter. He also cut off the front part of the airbox intake. I don't know whether the injectors have been calibrated or not. I have not replaced the aftermarket pipe with a OEM one (Beter helfde sê hy raas).

Can someone please show me a picture of the foam insert or give me the dimensions and the foam type/density so that I can make my own one? I would like to use the correct stuff.  I found some info on the f650.com site here (https://faq.f650.com/GSFAQs/AirFilterFAQ.htm) which says:
I left mine in until I got the FN installed and the O2 sensor unhooked. Runs well now with that combination. Quite smooth and not a trace of surge. It also pulls well from the low 3's right on up. Leaving the plug in is probably to avoid making the bike run any leaner than it already does. The FN and O2 sensor disconnect richen things up. BradG 1002
What is a FN?

Dankie
