When I was on a ride over the weekend, my 1290 suddenly 'stuttered' when pushing it over 6000RPM. Bike has got 14000km on now and I immediately thought it's probably the fuel filters that are clogged. I had the same happen to me on my 1190, but it was still under warranty and filters were replaced for free.
I was thinking of either cleaning the filters myself or buying a filter kit and fitting it myself, but decided to get quotes from RAD and TRAX..... very interesting!
TRAX: Filter kit = R1025.00 + 30mins labour to fit = R260.00: Total = R1 285.00incl
RAD: Filter kit = R1023.95 + 120mins labour to fit = R1482.00: Total = R2 505.95incl WTF!
It was a no-brainer, so I took the bike to TRAX and waited while the new filters were fitted - It took around 30mins (not two hours!).
The pump could be removed without stripping anything, not even the crash bars, as stated in manual.
Below is a photo of the old filters - they were seriously dirty!
I found a link to an Italian company that markets filters that one can mount under the fuel cap - seems like a good idea?! https://guglatech.it/en/products/M04006
Maybe worth a group buy?
