So I rode a KTM 690R yesterday. One was stock standard and the other was the Oryx with full pipe, etc... My mate is looking at getting one.

And after all the hype I can say that I was positively underwhelmed?

I am used to the direct and immediate response from my bike, which has a pumper carb. But I struggled to get the "feel" for the response from both 690s? (both the 654cc)

The Oryx felt more lively, but also not quite right (to me)

There is no bottom end torque and the bike only starts pulling strong in the mid range. And then most of the power at the top. And there is a certain lack of connection between throttle and the response.

Totally opposite to how I have come to know thumpers?

Can the fuel injection be mapped to such a large extent that the power can be shifted lower in the range?

And can fuel injection be tweaked to give you the same "feel" as what a carb does?

No bashing intended, this is just how I perceived it.

Rather disappointed coz I always thought the 690 would be my next upgrade as its supposed to be the ultimate thumper.

I must also add that I only covered about 5km on each bike and on tar only.

What say the 690 owners?
