There is a very large organization here in the States, BMW Motorcycle Owners of America (BMW MOA) that has kind of a sub group called GS Giants. The MOA does a rally every year and the Giants do a little pre-rally ride that is more dirt-focussed. It's more popular on our east coast and in the midwest region but not so much on the west coast, where I live. They've been after me for a while to do an event out here to raise awareness for the group, so I agreed.
We've done this event four times now but this time it's branded a "GS Giants" event. A BMW was not a requirement Nobody cares what you ride. I think we had three KTM's, a Yamaha 250 and a Triumph Tiger 800.
We camp at this place called Brown's Owens River campground. It's at 6800 feet (2100 m) in elevation, so the weather is nice for this part of late summer up here. Temps were around 85 F/29 C in the day and it was as low as 39 F/4 C one night. The other two mornings were warmer. This is located in an ancient volcanic caldera near Mammoth Lakes, CA, so there are numerous hot springs around the valley. I tried them out for the first time and it was very nice after a long day of riding. It was also nice to see some younger lady mountain climbing instructors from Yosemite visit the spring sans clothing Don't have any pictures of that though!
I got up there Thursday so we had two full days of riding. Friday we had about 11 riders and Saturday we had 12 in my group and some other noobish riders took an easier set of trails.
One really critical part turned out to be the food. I got it catered for dinner Fri and Sat night and the food was amazing. That really makes people happy.
This is my Redverz tent, or "GS Condo," "Garage-mahal," or "1BR w/attached garage." I'm proudly displaying the group's flag
This is John and his wife Connie who came in their new RV. Apparently, I should have become a plumber.
This guy Brad came with his rig. He's doing this "Ride of My Life" series (you can find on YouTube) about adventure riding.
My steed with a fresh Mitas E09 Dakar on the back. I love this tire.
Food was amazing
Eat with the Italians. They always bring wine.
