Help for a blond ... with a DR650

Hey there can anyone help me with starting my DR650 what am I doing wrong if anything??

The Problem!   :BangHead:
When starting, especially if you only just did a short run, if you miss that the 1st take/fire as you press the happy button, on trying again the motor just turns.
If you keep trying (3 to 4 times) the battery karks out and there you sit!

Trial and error solutions (Actually Symptom management - Need a cure besides  ccasion14: )

•If at 1st you don't succeed chill and wait 5 mins then try again, before you suck the battery dry, works most of the time.
•The back wheel just locks up if you try to runstart (1st 3 gears)
•Use the car to jumpstart the bike - not an option away from home

It wasn't always doing this..
My delightful hubby has ...

•Cleaned the airfilter
•Sprayed about a 1/4 tin of Carb cleaner through the carb
•Tricklecharged the battery
•Checked the plug it looks fine

Any  wisdom and old dog knowledge would be great
