How to freshen up aluminium parts

Hi there,
I am in the process of cleaning a XR650R.
What product works best to clean engine and frame parts  - the aluminium bits.
I do not plan to take the engine apart - will have to be cleaned in situ, but might do the swing arm bearings, etc.
