BMW-Motorrad said:The Skills Challenge at the 2006 Great African GS Challenge has just turned red hot with the announcement of the biggest first prize in the history of the event - a brand new R 1200 HP2 worth R 139 000.
"And with that goes a great Castrol jacket we hope to make synonymous with the Skills Challenge Champion. Second and third prizes have also received a major boost with another great sponsorship from Touratech South Africa," says BMW Motorrad General Manger Lachlan Harris.
A R20 000 voucher for Touratech accessories will be won by the second best GS rider of 2006, while the third runner-up will receive a R10 000 voucher from the same company.
Jan (Staal) du Toit said:"But participants who enter for the voluntary skills contest will have to work very, very hard to ride away on the HP2," warns chief off-road instructor Jan du Toit. As the man responsible for devising a different track for every day of the competition, he says the Moolmanshoek terrain will be a great test for riding ability.
"In view of the wonderful prizes, we will have to raise the bar a notch or two." .
