Jacket vs Body Armour

Howsit Guys.
I am looking for opinions on my usual adventure jacket vs going with body armour on an upcoming 2 week offroad trip. Obviously the reason I am considering the body armour option is that it would no doubt be cooler in the middle of the day and a windbreaker over it should be warm enough in the morning. What is the consensus on protection?
