Taking your bike for it's annual service is never a good thing. Too many things to distract one. Hence this thread😎
After three BMW F800GSs in a row I just thought that life cannot be that boring.

Back in 2019 I was really surprised with how well the KTM 790 Adv R went, but the impressive specs of the 1090 R convinced me. And what a bike - the most powerful bike I have ever owned. That LC8 engine is something to behold, and it is still an incredible drive.

5 years on and time came to find something new. My mind was set on a pre owned new 1290R on KTM Cape Town's floor. What a bike - struggling to keep the front wheel on the tar - but the crash bars and my shins did not agree from the first moment (I am 2m tall). As with the R1200GS where the pods are in the way, the crash bars that now extends further back limits leg movement.

And then I rode the KTM 890 Adv R. In 2019 a new 790 owner told me about the advances in technology, and in 2023 I came to respect those advances. An incredibly strong 890 parallel twin engine, 30kg shaved off from the 1090 in such a way that the bike feels nimble, and nice extras like quickshifter and cruise control (it works very well) won me over. The fact that it is rock stable well over the national speed limit finally convinced me. How do they do this, with a bike that has a plastic bike front fender?!

Back to the dealership after back to back test rides, and on the floor stood a 2022 and a 2023. But the new 2022 was R10000 less, and had the rally pack and prefilter included. Deal done!
