Spare a thought today for our riding partner. Whilst riding the backroads of Swellendam to Riersdale he was set upon by a kudu. Doing a moderate 110kmph and riding almost abreast of anothe mate, he didn't even see the kudu bull hop a 2.5m high game fence then it jumped into him hitting him chest high ... he was knocked clean off the bike which tumbled a further 75m up the hill. The kudu? I hear you ask with thoughts of piles of biltong ... well it steadied itself and jumped over the fence and disappeared into the bush.
Out mate lay dead still in the furrow alongside the gravel rd ... an ugly groan from his twisted body tore through the silence.
After we carefully removiled his helmet and getting him into the recovery position he stirred, shaken, he slowly sat up, a little blood from his lip ... then, like what seemed to the rest of us, the toughest man on earth he got to his feet. There was a sigh of relief from the rest of us when he finally spoke asking WTF happened????
The bike is totalled ...
After a few minutes he was feeling OK and able to ride pillion for 40km to Riversdale Hospital.
Happy to say Charles is ok, sore, battered but resting up.
Be careful out there men and women ...
