Hi Everyone,

We will be hosting another Guided ride out to Maraisburg on the 20th of September 2014

How does the Moto101 Social/Noob Ride Work?

The rides will be guided by riders that have many years of riding experience at the various venues. Along with the guide, there will be no more than 5 Riders per marshal so that you are always close to a marshal in case you need assistance at any stage throughout the ride.

The riding routes will be very relaxed in their nature. We will not be dragging you up and down mountains all day long and make sure that our pace is such that even the slowest rider is still part of the group.
The goal at the end of the day is for everyone on the ride to have a thoroughly enjoyable day in the saddle and for you to return safely and join us on the next ride.

What do I need to bring/do?

In order for you to join us on the ride, you need to send us an email with your details so that we can reserve you a space. We will then communicate with you further at a personal level.

Your Bike and you gear:

PLEASE MAKE SURE OF THE FOLLOWING:

1: Your Bike is 100% mechanically sound.
2: Most of the places we ride have thorns etc. please carry Tyre Fix or the like. It is good common pratice to either run Double Thick Tubes, Wrapped Tubes or Mousses. Punctures can ruin the ride for you and for the people around you. Fixing a puncture is also very time consuming.
3:please Make you have a clean and oiled air filter prior to any ride not just this one. It is an absolute must for every dirtbike.
4: Fuel and Oil are a necessity for all dirtbikes. Please make sure your bike is full before you get to the venue and if you ride a Two Stroke, please bring additional oil with you in your camelbak/ Tripper.
5: Please make sure that you have ALL the correct riding kit with you prior to the ride. Boots, Helmet, Gloves and Goggles are absolutely imperative and a bare minimum.
6: Hydration Pack’s are also very important. We ride in a very warm climate. Even in winter we dehydrate quickly. You will need to have your own camelbak/tripper.
7: Money may be needed during the ride, be it to pay for petrol or extra refreshments. We would suggest a minimum or carrying R100 in small notes.
8: Basic Tools and Accessories you should have with you on ALL rides should be the following: Tools for your Bike, Spare Bolts, CABLE TIES and DUCT TAPE (Two thing you will always need), a spare spark plug, a master link for your chain, Tow Rope, Pain Killers (in case) and a basic (MSA Spec) Medical Aid Kit.
Cramp Blockers are also a nice little addition to your Camelbak/Tripper.

How do we ride and what do you expect of me?

1: When riding in a group you always look out for the rider in front of you and make sure if you turn of the current track you wait for the rider behind you. Once the rider behind you gets to the “new” route, you can carry on and they must wait for the next rider. Leapfrogging past riders ends up with people getting lost.
*****although this isn't strictly enforced on a beginners ride, it is good practice to get used to riding like this****

2: When there is a turning in the track where all riders will be going a different direction, the guide will stop and wait until everyone is together and only when the last guide and riders arrive, will the ride continue.

3: Dust Gaps are important. No Rider wants to suck dust all day. If a rider wants to leave a dust gap, please don’t sit on their rear wheel revving like a mad man. Wait until the next stop and ask them if you can go in front of them. Remember this is a social beginner’s ride not a race.

4: When approaching on coming riders, please KEEP LEFT and SLOW DOWN. Head on collisions are never fun.

4: Alcohol, please keep the alcohol consumption to a zero until we are finished the ride. Too many silly accidents happen when riders drink throughout the ride. If you want to drink and ride, that is your prerogative but please do it on your own time and not when you risk other riders lives in the group.

5: Our riding areas are disappearing rapidly, please RESPECT our riding areas and the people that live in those areas. Ride slowly and as quietly as possible through villages as to not disturb the peace and create havoc with dust. Also ride slowly past any animals you may come across.

More hints, tips and tricks will be communicated to you on the day of the ride so that you get a better understanding of what and what not to do on a group outride.
