Just returned from a trip of which one leg found me through the Anysberg between Touwsrivier and Route 62. For those planning to do this route just be very aware that the mapped road through Boerboonfontein towards Barrydale is CLOSED by a big friggin gate marked "Private Property"! This necessitated an irritating backtracking detour.
Best to continue towards Ladysmith or alternatively through to Warmwaterberg. On the latter route you will also come across a gated fence with guard hut marked "Sanbona" but what at first appears to be private property, is in fact the public road to Warmwaterberg. The guard will however insist on arranging an escort due to the presence of lion in the reserve.
You will be told that the speed limit is 15 km/h but as I didn't fancy a 3 hour trip to my first beer at Ronnies Sex Shop, I soon left my escort behind. I must say he manfully tried to keep up in his Landcruiser but even my "moderate" pace of 70 km/h seemed to hot for him to handle. I reckoned that at that speed I stood less chance of becoming lion lunch than at 15 km/h! Mercifully I didn't come across any lions or other hungry beasties.....
