Popped in to my nearest BMW dealer for some coffee and chit-chat this morning. I end parking next to a green Range Rover (previous shape), where a guy is unloading boxes of gear, brand new and seemingly unused. I nod a "morning" at him, but decide to ignore the drawn look on his face as I continue to some good cheer.
Chatting with the salespeople after the coffee, I hear the full story...
The guy bought a 2011 1200 GSA, fully kitted (panniers and all), 400km on the clock. Added a bunch of gear to the purchase (I estimate in excess of R15k of BMW kit). Took it home as a surprise for his family - obviously he's hugely excited about resuming a hobby or having a jol with his mates.
But his family wasn't so keen - wife and daughters said no way. Dealer went to collect the bike from his house this morning...
Sad sad day. Feel for the man, but I guess such big purchases should be run by the family first...
Think he got his money back, but lost some spirit in the deal...
