Ive always wanted to be able to "Record/Track" an out ride so that i could ride it again in my own time or show a friend the route. I believe that the etrex and other gps's can track a route. I have Garmin XT on my Samsung Omina which doesnt have this luxury. But Ive found a way.

The Process goes like this (more Detail later):

Use tracking software to track out ride,  copy track to PC,  Convert track in to route (so that it gives you voice and directional prompts),  Copy track to phone garmin xt and then you can go to routes and you will see the route you have just riden.

Important issue: The convention from a track to a route is quite complex but is necessary so that you can get voice and directional prompts.

Ok now for the Tech stuff

What you need:
1.Windows mobile phone with GPS and Garmin XT

2. Map source ( first have to download #  Training Center For Windows, Ver. 3.4.3, as of Dec 05, 2008)
https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=835   this in enables you to get Map source free!
(second download and install map source  https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209)

3. Wingdb (convertion tool)   https://www.elsinga.net/206.html  download  https://www.elsinga.net/redirect.php?url=https://home.elsinga.net/download/wingdb11.zip

4.GPS Cycle Computer  ( For phone to TRACK route, Install on phone)  https://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-gps-cycle-computer.html

Ok so if you got all that stuff you can do it. Seems like a lot but its not to bad.

Detail Process (How TO DO IT)

1. Use Cycle computer on phone to Track route. Once you have finished your route/ride hit stop and save as a gpx. file.

2. Connect your phone to pc and find saved track should be in program files/cycle computer. Copy to pc

3. Now the hard part. Open up mapsource and open copied track. Right click track and go to properties, then filter. Go to max points and right 5 or 10 depending on how long track is. Then hit ok. Save the track as a gdb version 2.

4. Now open  Wingdb  and open newly saved gdb version 2 and create a output file name ie COOL RIDE. Then select  (convert track to route with hidden via points). The hit CONVERT.

5. Hard part over. Now open up mapsouce again and open up new converted GDB ROUTE ie cool ride. (Now you will see is a route not a track.) Send to phone using mapsource.

6. Go to garmin and view and use route.

IT WORKS really cool!! Once you have done it a few times its easy.  Hope i haven't left anything out questions welcome.
