In the light of all the other awesome diy threads here I thought I'd post two of my recent projects.
1) Cheap bike trailer.
I found an old quad bike trailer as a donor for free. It had a enclosed box on top which was cut off and the hinge system to tilt the load bed for loading a bike was a terrible design so the drawbar got welded onto the chassis rather. When it was tilted it was way too steep to actually load a bike. I'll rather use a ramp.
So after cutting off all the bits I didn't need and welding the drawbar I made a track for the front and rear wheel using some scrap I had laying around. Wheel bearings were cleaned and packed with grease again. Wiring was checked. A proper sanding and quick coat of primer and all done. Still has to get a final paint job and need to go sort out papers (just in arrears by 4 years) then all done.
I towed it 800km from the farm to P.E. and not a single problem. Also with the rubex axles not much bouncing on gravel.
To be done to the trailer still:
-I want to make a second set of tracks, one on either side so that it can be used as either a single or double bike trailer.
-Make removable side panels so it can be used to move garden refuse etc.
-Final paint job
-wheel alignment. The one stub axle is out of alignment so the tyre is wearing more on one side. Have already got a plan to fix that when I've got the time.
