Sprocket & chain replacement on Dakar

Hi all.

I am relatively new to this list, and I find it very useful. I bought a 2nd hand Dakar a while back, and I need to replace the chain and sprocket set.

BMW quoted me R1800 to do this. It seems a bit excessive. I am not against doing the work myself, so I would like to find out a few things.

Should I get the chain and sprocket set from BMW, or can I get it from somewhere else? Recommendations?

Is it advisable to do it this way, or should I rather let the dealers do a cachectomy on me?
