Stator fail cause

Hey guys I'm in the process of having my stator re wound but I can't see why it would suddenly fail, the accessories are just a duel USB charger so shouldnt have such a high current draw so I'm wondering what I should be checking I have read that the rectifier can fail causing the power not to be delivered to the battery but what else should I be checking? Bike is a 2013 KTM 690 ER
