Stop/Start switch broke?

Hi guys.
I just stopped home from an awesome dirt ride with two other dogs. When I wanted to kill my engine by pressing the stop button, I could feel it does not want to engage. Fiddled with it a bit and got it stopped, now I can't start the bike! What do I do? Open up and see what's going on? Anyone had a similar experience?
