Only two weeks to go.... can't wait.
Planning is well under way for The Heritage and Great Lakes Tour which we are kicking off in June 2014. It has always been Mrs. Cyclops dream to do Africa overland, but somehow having a family and earning a living put paid to that dream as the priorities had changed. We have now decided that the time is right that we at least embark on a "mini Africa overland" and so the Heritage and Great Lakes Tour was born.
The itinerary that is planned is as follows:
Day 1 Johannesburg to Martins Drift Botswana - overnight at Kwa Nokeng Lodge
Day 2 Martins Drift to Nata Lodge
Day 3 Nata Lodge to Maun - overnight at either Old Bridge or Okavango River Lodge
Day 4 Rest day
Day 5 Maun to Popa Falls, Namibia - overnight at Ngepi Lodge in Namibia
Day 6 Ngepi to Katimo Mulilo via Caprivi Strip - overnight at Zambezi Lodge
Day 7 Zambezi Lodge KM to Kasane, Botswana - overnight at Toro Lodge on the Chobe River
Day 8 Kasane to Victoria Falls - overnight at Victoria Falls Rest Camp or Backpackers
Day 9 Rest day, bungee jumping, white water rafting etc
Day 10 Victoria Falls to Milibizi - overnight at Milibizi Hotel or other suitable accomodation
Day 11 Kariba Ferry overnight on Lake Kariba to Kariba
Day 12 Kariba - overnight at Warthogs Bush Camp
Day 13 Kariba to Lusaka over Kariba Dam Wall - overnight at Pioneer Camp in Lusaka
Day 14 Lusaka to Chipata - overnight at Mama Rula's in Chipata (may break this day and stay at Bridge Camp Luangwa River)
Day 15 Chipata to Senga Bay, Lake Malawi - stay at Cool Runnings
Day 16 - 18 Enjoy Lake Malawi
Day 19 Senga Bay to Monkey Bay - stay at Fat Monkeys
Day 20 Enjoy Lake Malawi
Day 21 Monkey Bay to Blantyre or thereabouts.
Day 22 Blantyre to Cahorra Bassa - overnight at Ugezi Tiger Lodge
Day 23 Cahorra Bassa to Harare
Day 24 Rest day
Day 25 Harare to Inyanga and the Chimanimani mountains - overnight at at Inn on the Vumba Hotel
Day 26 Chimanimani to Chiredzi - overnight at Hippo Valley Estates Country Club
Day 27 Chiredzi to Tshipise via Beitbridge - overnight at Hot Springs Resort
Day 28 Tshipise to Johannesburg.
Some of the distances in the early part of the trip may be a bit long but those who have done Botswana will relate to this.
We are more than happy to have some more wildogs join us on this trip and are envisaging 3 - 4 bikes as a good sized group. There will be myself and Mrs. Cyclops and another couple on a GSA. The itinerary is flexible with the ferry crossing being the only not negotiable part of the trip. Expected departure date is 1st - 4th June in oder to make the ferry. Suggestions are welcome.
