With being a medium-newby to the offroad riding thing, can the riders with the tips/help maybe assist in getting to an answer?

A friend and I have been building the guts to do Sani, but then chickened out every time for the same mammoth task of getting the GS1200 up that pass without serious injury or damage.

We are not totally unskilled and have done Country Trax and try as often as possible to get the dust between the teeth.

My question is thus what level of skill one would need to do it? Is it based on pure guts? Should we give it a go with the current expertise or should we practice a bit more before attempting the Rubicon? If someone has done it, surely the bragging rights will assist us in reaching the same goal.
