This was never meant to happen!! I wasn't even supposed to buy the damn bike. After I sold the CX 500 that Louis built for me I was in the market for
a classic bike that I could send to Louis and get sorted out. I even drove up to Richards Bay to go look at a Le mans III Moto Guzzi which in hindsight
was a bargain for R32K. But Fate had other ideas, my brother had found out that Moto Guzzi were returning and about 6 months before it happened had managed to get
intel that they were going to bring in the V7 Racer, a bike that we had lusted over on all the blogs we visited.
So one fateful morning he called and said the v7 Racer was in Umhlanga and could I please go and inspect it for him as he was number 1 on the SA Waiting list. I was ill
prepared as I walked in the showroom and this was standing there..
I was mesmerised , when you see these bikes online you always in the back of your mind think , I can only really decide when I see one!! So I jealously called Louis
and said he has to buy it , HAS TO and that was that , he had 24 hours to make a decision or the bike would be sold to the now expanding waiting list.
He called me the next morning 4 hours before his deadline and told me that he was out and that I need to make a call before lunchtime if i wanted it our not..I don't work well
under pressure and often find that i make rash decisions , so 1 day later there i was the very proud owner of the first 2012 V7 Racer sold in SA..
Cool I thought this bike had all the cool looks I liked , but it started every time , had a warrantee , parts backup , no Rust and was so cool cruising around Durban on such a unique looking machine.
THen two things happened , I was riding back from Uhmlanga on the M4 loving life when another V7 Racer passed me looking exactly as cool as mine. Thats the thing with limited editions..they all look the damn same , that's not very limited!!
Secondly and more importantly I had a moment in my garage 4 days after buying the bike. I had just trimmed the lawn edges and was placing the weed eater back on it's hook in the garage when i kicked the ladder leaning against the wall which fell over. A cold chill came over me as it has been close to the bikes and it seemed like it had missed everything..It didn't miss everything..It had hit the chrome Guzzi tank on the top edge and left a golf ball sized dent in a tank that cannot be panelbeated!!!
you can just see the dent on the top right corner..
