Wanted Bike security / lock

Dogs.  Any suggestions what to use to secure a bike at parking lots, malls etc.  I was looking to find an Oxford Screamer but it seems that it might only be availible July / Augustus from Flying Brick at R720.  Cannot find an Xena.  BMW might have a disk lock for about R3000.
I understand that a disk lock is not theft proof but I want to secure my bike a little bit more.  Feedback will be welcomed. IE battery life, pitfalls etc.
