Where to stay? Queenstown/Elliot/Matatiele

We will be traveling back to KZN from Port Alfred after Christmas, but want to take a few days doing so. I've heard lots about the road via Queenstown to Matatiele, so we think this will be nice to see, as it will be the first time.
My question is what is there to see in the area, and possible places of accomodation along the way. Unfortunately bike not going with us...
