Your reference to the old R69s and it’s kickstart is very evocative.
I owned one in the mid 1970’s. Kicking it while standing to the side was a beautiful art. The carbs needed to be ‘tickled’ before the kick. Bizarrely , on mine, the left carb took 2 tickles and the right, 4. Then it started first kick. I had Metac rifled exhausts on mine. When it roared into life , and subsided to idle, it was like the sound of Aphrodite about to orgasm.
I liked the fact that both rims were 18 inch, and interchangeable, so I just rode mine with a 400/18 tire on the front as well. With the Earls fork front suspension , and the tires deflated, and a passenger and luggage, it handled soft sand well ... something I really struggle with in my riding now...
