I installed a K&N airfilter on my 650 shortly after getting it. I have always been surprised at the amount of crap accumulated in the filter. I am not talking about dust, but the leaves and bugs and stuff...
So I came up with a cunning plan:
Make a filter that straps onto the opening of the airbox. I hunted for a long time till I found the right type of foam
Photo 1. Air snorkel cut open (did this about a year ago)
Photo 2. I built up the opening with the edges flared open so I have something to hook my cover over.
Photo 3. Cut the foam that it has the shape a bit bigger than the opening.
I cut a strip of material that I stuck to the foam with clear apoxy. Once I glued the strip all around the foam I folded it over and glued the other edge of the strip all around the foam and it was done.
Photo 4. Busy gluing the the strip folded back.
Photo 5. It complete and I thread a cable tie through ready to be strapped over the opening.
Here is the cool part, I strapped it on and can take it off without taking off any covers on the bike...
