Hi folks! I'm new to this here forum and I recently decided to join the ranks of the D/S riders by buying an old KLR600 from a chap who's now immigrated to Aus.... with no electric start.

It's a b*&cth to get started though. Anyone have any generic tips when it comes to kcik starting, choking etc? There is what looks like an after market choke setup (looks like a bicycle gear selector) but it doesn't seem to do anything.

So far I've found the most success from not giving it any gas at all when kicking but it coughs and splutters after about 5 mins of hard work followed by another 5 minutes of more hard work. Once it's going it goes like the clappers and when warmed up it kicks first time.

I've replaced the plug and fuel lines and fuel filter.

Any advice will be appreciated and tried.
