I wasn't happy with the suspension on my '03 KLR as it was too soft and the rear shock bottomed out badly on trips when loaded and riding bad dirt. The front was prone to bottoming out too and sloppy around corners, as well as headshake at speed. I first fitted the Larry Roesler progressive springs to the front and they made a huge difference, with the bike now tracking straight and true at all speeds. Have done several long trips thru Bots and Moz since and they are great. Then found the Top Gun spring and fitted the 7.4kg white spring and it has made a big improvement to the back. Am going on a 4000km trip next month to Moz  and the Lower Zambezi so will be able to assess the differences well by the end as the terrain covers good to really bad. The web addresses for the spring suppliers are below if anyone wants to check them out.
