After the successful trip to Sani and through Lesotho I am putting together another relatively rustige rykie. Again if anyone is keen mail me your email address and I will keep you in the loop with the planning. You need to have some offroad riding skills, be self sufficient, willing to camp and above all have a sense of humour. Again I wont be doing to much planning just following the route and each guy can come and go as he pleases and rejoin the group at the camp sites.
Below is the route (Version 1) I would appreciate some comments from the guys who know Swaziland, especially when it comes to fuel, camp sites. If someone has the time and would be kind enough to put this on a Garmin route for me I would appreciate that.
Swaziland Trip – Preparation
Planned ride dates: March 21st – March 24th
Johannesburg to Barberton
• N4 to Belfast
• R540 to Dullstroom
o After Dullstroom dirt road on left through Santa Pass
o Waterfall to De Bergpass
o Right onto R577 to Lydenburg
• R533 to Pilgrims rest down into Graskop
• R532 to Blyde River Canyon (View point Gods Window)
o Loop back through Paradise campsite down into Graskop
• Graskop into Sabie via Mac-Mac Retreat and Sabie Falls
• From Sabie take the R37 right onto the R539 via Sudwala Caves
• Back onto the N4 into Nelspruit.
• Nelspruit onto the R40 into Barberton.
• Barberton to Bulembu Border post R40 (Scenic route)
o Bulembu Border post hours: 08h00 – 16h00
Swaziland to Piet Retief
• Bulembu to Pig’s peak – SZ25 (fuel point)
• MR2 via Croydon to Mliba
• Mliba MR5 to Luve dirt tracks (Possible fuel issue here)
• Dirt track heading North – West – then South to Mbabane
• Mbabane MR19 to Mhlambanyatsi
• Mhlambanyatsi – dirt track SZ31 to Malkerns
• Malkerns SZ35 – splits onto the MR4
• MR4 through Sicunusa
o Border post Houtkop-Sicunusa post hours: 08h00-18h00
• Piet Retief
[Piet Retief to Alberton
• Piet Retief R543 to Wakkerstroom
• Wakkerstroom to Volksrust
• Volksrust to Standerton
• Standerton R23 to Brakpan
• Brakpan to Alberton (home sweet home)
