Ordering/buying riding gear from overseas

Long story short: I want a specific pair of Falco riding boots that are only brought in by FT. I've been waiting for over 3 months from them for a pair. They keep saying they are waiting for the supplier in Italy. The supplier tells me the problem is local....

Anyway, what I want to know is has anyone ordered - successfully - something like that from the US or Europe? Helmet/boots/gloves/whatever.

I can get the boot for about the same price as local (shipping price is more than half the price of the boot!! :-[) either from AMG in the US or from a dealer in Italy.

Is there anything I should watch out for or can I just send to my PO box and pray it arrives?
