Short vs Long gloves

What do you guys think of short gloves for spring/summer/fall? Despite the obvious extra wrist protection that the longer gloves add, would you say short gloves are adequate for everyday biking? I fitted some short gloves over the weekend and was wondering if it would be a good buy. Any thoughts?
