This topic is going to get the 10 cents worth brigade and the peanut gallery going. Maybe even some useful information will come out of this. Here we go.
Assuming their tests are near enough to being correct , a KTM 690 top speed is 190kph and a Yamaha MT07 top speed is 214kph. .2 different bikes with similar HP. Except the one is a single and the other is a twin.  Not much in it.
The KTM has 1 big 690cc piston going up and down and the Yamaha has 2 smaller 350cc pistons going up and down.
Why do we perceive that the 690 single is not going to be happy sitting all day on a tar road blatt at 160kph and yet the 700 twin will be. Both bikes pistons are going up and down at similar speeds.
Is there really any difference? Is it just our "mechanical feel" or feeling sorry for the single revving it's tits off as opposed to the twin revving? Is it just the added (and maybe not that much) vibration of the single that makes us worry? Is it even really something to be concerned about? Is there a technical explanation giving proof of why the single motor will go bang or not last too long as opposed to the twin?  Fire away !!!!!! Pun intended. ;) ;) ;) ;)
