I had a slow puncture/leak on the front wheel of my F800GS since I fitted a new tyre and tube - it lost about 0,2 bar in a week.  I thought it was probably a slow leak at the valve, and routinely pumped the tyre every week before a ride. Last week I visited my dad in Pretoria and took a short cut through an empty erf.  A few minutes later the front tyre was completely flat.  I found a small tear of about 5 mm in the tube, but there was no sign of a nail/thorn or any damage to the tyre.  I think that there was possibly a fixed sharp object in the veld that caused the problem, but can't help to wonder if it was not the slow leaked that eventually caused the problem.  In any case, I will not take the chance to ride with a slow puncture over an extended period - I shudder to think of this happening at speed.
