The battery in my bike is 3 years old.  For the last 3 months it has been on my Optimate charger whenever I'm not riding it - and I do at least 80km every day.

The charger has made no difference to the behavior of the battery, which is as follows:

When the bike is in neutral, it starts first time every time - no problems.  If the bike is in gear (with clutch in of course) it turns the engine once, then everything 'dies' (on the console), THEN the engine starts and everything returns back to life.  This happens even when the battery is fully charged (according to my Optimate).

A good mate of mine told me that the battery may have 'lost' one of its cells during a fall (perhaps due to a short), and that, even though it's fully charged, it simply doesn't have enough power (i.e. current) with the reduced capacity.

Does this make sense?  And is there a way to fix it without replacing it?
