Hi, This is most likely a stupid question but here goes ... I had the tank off. After replacing the tank, bike fired up first time ran for a short while perfectly and then died. Would not re start. This morning I re checked everything and found the one fuel line was not inserted fully. Bike now...

Bmw hard plastic pannier repair advice wanted

During the delivery of my bike from Jhb the transport company managed to chafe about a 10 Sq cm area of one of the panniers. At one point it is worn right through the outer skin. Does anyone know of someone who can repair it. I am in Cape Town - deep south! Any suggestions appreciated.

    Noise on gravel

Please have patience whilst I get used to this bike! At times riding on gravel and on lose stones going uphill I heard a tinny rattle kind of sound. It was not very confidence inspiring with regard to tackling  tough sections with gusto. If the bike had a chain it could sound like violent chain...

    Crash ability of a pig

Hi, I have just acquired a peeg. My questions is how well do they crash in normal off road spills. I fall off a fair amount! Certain parts appear a bit vulnerable like the front corners of the tank, the beak and instrument cluster. On my R80 I have never dinged the big 34l tank, and the...

Hi, I am looking at an 1150, and I have to buy sight unseen as it's far away. I have been told that it has recently had a big 80,000 km service done by the agents. How big is this and should it give me some piece of mind ? Thanks in advance

Great Kei Gathering and beyond - Airhead pleasure

Great Kei Gathering and beyond When Chairman Meow phoned in December and asked if I was interested in joining fellow airheads on a trip from Pietermaritzburg to the Great Kei Gathering I jumped at the chance. Parts of the first section of the trip are covered in other reports. Arriving at Ian’s...

Okay let me try again! ( and ignore the date stamp on the photos) My bike had been down since October when I had a tank slapper on the way to the National Bash. After months of insurance haggles I got it back late in May and a trip was called for. Having enjoyed the Anvil bash so much Hingsdings...

Montana 600 - I am a GPS dummy and love it!

I have recently done my first trip with the Montana 600. 1760 trouble free kilometers. The reason for the post is that one gets the impression that the Montana is for advanced GPS users. I am a GPS dummy and found it easy to use, amongst others the touch screen makes it easy for novices to work...

Do you use your Montana Landscape or portrait?

In the amps bracket the less stress would be to use it landscape so it rests in the cradle, at this stage I think I would prefer to use it portrait. This would put most of the stress on the 4 lugs that grip the unit. How do you use your unit and if portrait any issues yet ( although it is early...

Weight - distribution and overall- comments saught

From personal experience, and comments from some other riders, my bike seems far more stable with a pillion on gravel. Now is this because I am light , 67kg, and my bike is heavy, about 220kg? Fully loaded, alu panniers, and solo I feel better without the load. Is this due to weight...

    R80GS valeo starter motor

Help/info required for the non technical. My bike came to a sudden stop in sand yesterday. If you can picture it, the bike went over forwards and sideways so the forces were upwards in the motor. When I righted the bike the starter motor would spin but not engage. Any idea what is wrong? Is...

    Dogs rock!

I was out at Atlantis this morning with another group and ended up falling quiet hard, on a very innocuous section, whilst following Kamanya whom we had met there. My starter motor would not engage after the fall, which is a bit of a c. up when in the dunes! Who spent a good hour getting me and...

    RAM brackets

I have a Garmin V mounted via a RAM bracket which has really been a great product so far, but riding in the Cederberg on Sunday I looked down to see that my GPS was missing. Looking further down, luckily, it was still hanging via it s cable. On closer inspection the nuts that hold the product...

Tubeless tire leaking at the bead

I have recently fitted a new tire and it is leaking badly between bead and rim - I have to pump up daily as it drops from 2.9 to about .5 in 24 hours. The word from the guys who fitted the tire seems to be going in the direction that it is my rim. Prior to this I had no issues except with a...

    Mitas E-07 Tubeless

Just a note that the Mitas E-07 130/80 17 can leak at the rim if run tubeless. Importer says this size is not included in the the" says tubed but can be run tubeless" type. To Rockgarden in Cape Town thank you for replacing the tire at your expense, that is excellent back up.

Does anyone have a way to make rubber foot pegs less slippery? For one trip I do not want to buy metal/serrated foot pegs for my pillion if I can help it.
