How tight should the oil filter be

I changed my oil and oil filter on Friday. I know the book says tighten to 24nm or something like that but dont have a torque device to do it.
I tightened it as tight as I could with my hands .... Is that good enough? or should I rather take it to someone to check?  :dontknow:
