My HP2 died and then rose from the dead again. How come?

I went down to Ottery to buy some stuff and on way back the bike just died. The LCD display was dead. Fokkol. Freed to the side of road. Turned ignition on and off, on and off. Nada. Niks. Wondered if it's ring antenna/key fing or battery. Just as I took of seat the LCD came alive again...

HP2/1200GS related question: high idling speed

My bike idles very nicely. But every now and then, when I come to a stop, the idle speed is quite high, especially if I've caned it a bit through the gears. If you switch off bike and then switch on immediately the idle speed is 100% normal. What gives?

2012 HP2 Jamboree? Not quite. But check this out...

https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=88132.0;topicseen Guys, I've indicated last year that I'm not available to organise another HP2 Jamboree. The reasons are varied. It takes time and effort. It always ends up with me having to pay in money to t-shirt suppliers, for instance. And, and...

    Merino wool technical base layer

Guys, I recently tried out some of that new merino wool technical base layer stuff in freezing Lesotho and yesterday in freezing Bloem (it was serious nipple stand stuff at De Brug early morning). The stuff works great. As far as moisture wicking is concerned, I'd say its on par or very close...

For Sale: Garmin GPSMap78s - SOLD

I'm selling an almost-new Garmin 78s - the successor to the famous 76s. What makes it nice is its toughness - waterproof, it floats (really, I am not shitting you), can work on 12V or 2 AA batteries - so it can be used for hiking, hunting (gives you sun & moon tables, etc). Another nice...

    Caseeeeey Stoner!

Fark, my man rode really well at Laguna Seca. Oh, I forgot, he has 'special' traction control. Ripped it out from his Ducati and brought along to Honda in his tog bag. That's why Rossi is struggling (in fact Stoner started to take it off on the sly after hours last year, explaining his lack of...

Garmin GPSMap 78s - let the games begin

After a few insults from Runner, we concluded a deal where I sell him my 276C and he sells me a new 78s. Now some of you might think: WTF? Hear me out. While "The Fishfinder" (aka 276C) is a great unit, I already have a Zuma 500. The Zuma is quite user-friendly and I've been using it more and...

Rally 3 pants (size 52) to swop for your Rally 3 size 50?

Gents, I've been doing some more weight loss, courtesy of a healthy diet and exercise and my size 52 pants that once fitted as planned are now starting to fall down my hips. Mine is grey/blue and in excellent condition, save for the odd little scruff mark on the inside of the legs where the...

Jacko does GS Trophy Africa 2010

Okay guys, here follows the RR. I will only load the photos later. It is long-ish. Maybe it isn't that good. But I have work to do! Holy shit. That Jap is going to kill himself, I'm thinking. He is pulling a lead and no matter how hard Dallie, our day’s marshall, is waiving his arm, the crazy...

Got my Giant Loop Coyote soft luggage, OMG!

I've been waiting for these babies for quite some time. In my day I've owned some soft luggage. Dry bags, soft panniers, Bacbones, rucksacks fastened with tie-downs, you name it. But none of them really hit the spot. I wanted my luggage to be: 1. Secure 2. Able to hold my 'standard' Jacko...

1200GS starter motor: new, ACME or recon?

My HP2's starter motor is developing certain SA tendencies: lazy, loud, power hungry and dishonest. It is time for a change. A new one is R5500. ACME has a 2010 one for R2500. HSK has had his recon-ed for R800-ish. But Shane at Atlantic Motorrad (who I trust implicitly) has warned me against...
